Permaculture
For Teens

Whereby participants are supported and facilitated in leading the design and management of their own permaculture garden and space, through solution-focused, project-based learning.

We believe adolescents have the greatest capacity to learn when they are directly involved in decision making, planning and applying their own unique ideas and solutions to real-life contexts.

A NATURAL LEARNING APPROACH

OUR UNIQUE PROCESS

Our mission is to provide educational programs that empower participants to work towards a sustainable future. We aim to do this by facilitating learners to equip themselves with the tools.

THE PERMACULTURE PHILOSOPHY

Permaculture promotes care for self, care for others and care for the environment. The rhythm of our day will be designed around these ideals, as well as understanding the Permaculture Design Principles and putting them into practice.

CARE FOR SELF

May look like journaling, meditation, movement, fresh air, sunshine, healthy eating, positive social interactions...

CARE FOR OTHERS

May look like group work,  positive discussion, teaching others skills, caring for animals and designing habitats...

CARE FOR THE EARTH

May look like gardening, building healthy soil, growing organic foods, creating biodiversity and eco-systems...

WHAT OUR DAY LOOKS LIKE

Purple Pear Emerging Permies is a High School multi-aged program (Years 7-12). Throughout the 10-week program, participants will work through understanding and applying the 12 Permaculture Design Principles. Our Emerging Permies program will involve both the intellectual theory of the principles as well as their practical application. Participants will be guided and provided autonomy to design and implement elements within the Purple Pear gardens and their family gardens at home.

12 Permaculture Design Principles

1. Observe and Interact

2. Catch and Store Energy

3. Obtain a Yield

4. Apply Self-Regulation and Feedback

5. Use and Value Renewables

6. Produce No Waste

7. Design from Patterns to Details

8. Integrate Don’t Segregate

9. Use Small, Slow Solutions

10. Use and Value Diversity

11. Use Edges and Value the Marginal

12. Creatively Use and Respond to Change

JOIN THE MOVEMENT

We desire Purple Pear Emerging Permies to be a community of future change-makers who develop valuable skills and a network of like-minded peers. We will encourage students to take ownership of the space and collectively work to develop an ever-changing and evolving Permaculture environment they will be proud of. The skills acquired can then be applied to whichever context each individual pursues next.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING

OUR GUARANTEE

As educators with experience working with a wide range of children of many ages and across many different contexts, we are confident that we can accommodate each child's individual needs. Should problems arise that need to be addressed, we will prioritise meeting the needs of all students and ensure that their families are involved in this process where necessary. In light of this, we will not be offering refunds once each term commences.

How long does the Emerging Permies program run for?

The Emerging Permies programs will run throughout the course of each school term, usually 10 weeks.

Is upfront payment required for the program?

Yes, our term payments are required prior to the commencement of the term. If you are requiring an alternate payment option- please reach out and we can discuss possible options.

Purple Pear Education prides itself on safety. Both Ash and Nige have up-to-date First Aid and CPR training, there are suitable First Aid Kits on-site and we have a full Risk Management Plan for all of our programs.

Do participants need to attend the entire 10-week program?

What do participants need to bring to the Emerging Permies program?

Students will need to bring their own morning tea, lunch, hat, sunscreen, fully enclosed footwear and a set of spare clothes to change into (if needed). If participants have any medical requirements that we may need to cater to, we will need to be informed in advance.
